OUR SPONSORS & SUPPORTERS

Boy & Girl of the Year:

Hi, and welcome to Jake Merrill’s 2016 Man of the Year Campaign (“MOY”) to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (“LLS”).

I once heard that 1 in 27 people will battle a blood cancer during their lifetime. If you know 27 people you know someone that has or will be affected. Please join us in funding a cure now, because if you wait until someone you love is diagnosed, it will simply be too late to make a difference.

Our Mission:

We are an ever-growing team that is committed to:

  • Raising awareness and money ($1 million over several years is our ultimate goal)

  • Putting this same team behind various candidates over several years

  • Naming research grants to honor our heroes (we can name one grant per every $50k raised)

  • Work with the other MWOY candidates to beat last year’s record $607,000 raised

  • Have fun helping others (that’s why we are having so many cool events that involve various forms of competition, live music, drinking, gambling and generally well….having fun!

What is Man & Woman of the year?

So you may be wondering….”what is Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) and why is Jake Merrill running? The MWOY is a national campaign to raise money for the fight against blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. It is simple, whoever raises the most money during the ten- week campaign wins. In addition to local chapter winners, national MWOY winners are also named.

Why is Jake Merrill running?

My dad, John Merrill ran for Man of the Year in 2014, and while his team did not win, we certainly won in our minds because we were able to raise enough money for 3 research grants.  His passion and drive to raise as much money as possible sparked a desire in me to do the same. I am running for Man of the Year to honor the passing of my mom and best friend in 2009 from Leukemia.  I want to honor the strength and courage they both showed by raising money to help others beat these diseases.

While we would certainly like to win MOY, my team’s primary goal is to raise money to honor the survivors in our lives and to pay tribute to those that we have lost to blood cancers. This year our campaign is focused on honoring my late mom Michelle, the most incredible person with a passion for life greater than anyone I have ever known. I am also running to honor my late best friend, Tyler, who passed just three short months after I lost my mom.  His ambition to do whatever he could to help others with his disease inspires me to carry on his work and contribute to finding a cure.
